What are the Uses of Keyword Difficulty Tool

Whether you are running a blog or a business with an online presence, the most important thing that you rely on is the traffic on your website.

Google is the number 1 source of organic traffic. People from all over the world use this search engine to find answers to their questions and queries.

If you have answers to their questions, or you can help them in solving their problem, you can drive them towards your website, and ultimately, they can be your customers.

However, the question is, how do you know what people out there are looking for?

This is the point where a keyword difficulty tool comes handy.

What a Keyword Difficulty Tool is?

A keyword difficulty tool is a software that helps you in determining which keywords are worth working on.

This software helps you to know how difficult it would be to rank for a particular keyword on the first two pages of Google by outranking the pages that are already there.

Some keywords have high difficulty

Let’s take an example of the keyword “beauty”. On a scale of 1 – 100, 1 being the easiest and 100 the most difficult, SEMSCOOP showed the difficulty level of this keyword 48

Low difficulty keywords

On the other hand, when I searched for “homemade DIY beauty products for face”, the difficulty level was 34.

What do these two examples show?

Well, it’s quite simple.

If you work on the first example, where the keyword difficulty was 48, it would be quite difficult to rank your page on the SERP. It will not only take a lot of effort but also a lot of time with minimum chances to outrank the existing pages.

Contrary to that, if you choose to work with the other example, there are more chances to get ranked on the SERP as the difficulty level is low.

Reasons to Use a Keyword Difficulty Tool:

In plain English, a keyword difficulty tool is used to determine whether it is realistic to work on a keyword to get ranked on the SERP or not.

These tools:

Save your Time:

You can save a lot of your time by properly using a keyword difficulty tool. How?  Let me tell you.

If you choose a difficult keyword to work on, you probably end with nothing but frustration. It would be hard to beat an existing page on the SERP.

However, when you find a low difficulty keyword, it is quite easy to rank for it. In fact, you can do it within a few months with a proper SEO and content strategy.

Find Good Keywords to Create Content On:

With the help of a keyword difficulty tool, you can get a handful of keywords that you can use to design your content strategy.

You can get plenty of ideas on which you can generate content and drive traffic to your website, which ultimately brings more business to you.

Most of these tools not only show you the difficulty of a keyword but they also tell you various other aspects about the ranked pages that you may need to know before you move forward and use them. For instance, domain authority, number of backlinks, domain age, etc.

other aspects of keywords

Help In Designing Marketing Strategy:

If you are finding keywords to run paid campaigns, these tools, again, are very helpful.

A keyword difficulty tool not only tells you the difficulty level of a keyword but also shows the actual search volume, cost-per-click, competition level, etc.

Using this information, you can create ad campaigns that really convert.

How to Use a Keyword Difficulty Tool for your Business:

In this section, I will briefly discuss how to use a keyword difficulty tool to grow your business and increase your revenue.

Let’s start:

Understand the Difficulty Score:

As discussed earlier, usually, these tools show the difficulty level of keywords on a scale of 0 – 100, where 1 is the easiest and 100 is the hardest.

To determine the difficulty of a keyword, different tools use various algorithms such as page authority, domain authority, etc. of the pages that show up on the SERP.

Generally, there are three levels of difficulties:

Highly Difficult Keywords:

If the difficulty level of a keyword is more than 80, you would need to highly invest in the link building and other SEO techniques.

If you are working for a newly built website, usually such keywords do not worth your time. Therefore, don’t opt for them.

Medium Difficult Keywords:

If the difficulty level of a keyword is between 50 – 80, it would be more realistic to work on it. It is because it would be much easier to rank for such a keyword as compared to highly difficult keywords.

Low Difficulty Keywords:

A keyword with less than a score of 50 lies in this category. Keywords that lie under 50 and also have a good search volume are the best options for you, especially if you are working with a new website.

Short List your Keywords:

Once you have a list of keywords with a low difficulty level, you are ready to sort them out and identify the best options for your business.

Make a list of shortlisted keywords so you can work around them and come up with content ideas.

Prioritize your Low Difficulty Keywords:

Now you have a list of shortlisted low difficulty keywords. The next thing you need to do is to prioritize them in a way that you prefer to work with.

You might get keywords with different lengths – long-tail keywords, short-tail keywords, etc. Determine with which keywords you want to work and plan your strategy accordingly.

Conclusion

Keyword research is the basic ingredient for the success of any online business. It may sound mundane to you, but believe me, it is necessary.

The correct use of keywords is crucial for any website. When you understand the different levels of keywords, you would be able to adjust your SEO strategy and keep your focus on the right keywords.

Keyword Research For Beginners – A Crush Guide To SEO

When it comes to SEO, Google keeps us on toes with its algorithm updates every now and then. However, there is one thing that is consistent for many years and it is the keyword research.

Well, it doesn’t mean that nothing has changed about the keyword research at all. The main idea behind it is still the same, though how you do it may have changed.

Many people often ask me about dos and don’ts while researching keywords. Therefore, I decided to write a quick SEO guide for people who are beginners in this field.

What is Keyword Research?

Before starting doing anything new, it is important to know what it is?

You all know what is a keyword. Right?

The queries or terms people enter in the search engine are called keywords.

The process of finding these keywords, analyzing them, and then deciding with which keywords you want to work with is called keyword research.

This process helps you in deciding your content and marketing strategy.

Importance of Keyword Research for your Business:

In the past years, SEO has evolved greatly. It is no longer important to exactly match your keyword with a person’s search query.

Instead, it is the intent behind the keyword that is important and whether your content has the ability to solve that intent or not.

But, it doesn’t mean that keyword research is not important now.

Let me explain it to you.

Keywords tell you about the topics that people are looking for. Assuming you use the right SEO tool, you would know how popular these topics are among your target audience.

When you research keywords and get a list with high search volume, you can sort out the ones that are relevant to your niche, and create topics around them.

With the help of researching keywords, their popularity, monthly search volume, and understanding their intent, you can cater to your audience by answering the questions they are looking for answers to.

What is Intent and How it Affects Keyword Research?

You all know the literal meaning of this word – intent. The intention or the purpose behind an act is called intent.

Now you may be thinking what intent has to do we keyword research. Well, the intent of the user now plays a vital role in your success to drive traffic to your website.

Let me explain it with an example.

Suppose you are searching for the keyword “mobile phone repair” to write an article on it. Now, behind using this keyword, users might have two intents. Some users might want to know service centers from where they can get their mobile phones repaired.

Understanding the user intent

However, some of the users might not be looking for the repair shops, instead, they want to know some DIY processes to get their phones fixed.

understand the user intent

Now, your content strategy will depend on the fact that which intent you want to target. If you want to target people who intent to find repair centers, you will develop content around this idea.

If you are targeting people who want to know about DIY mobile repairing, you will create content accordingly.

How to Research Keywords:

Although keyword research is no rocket science, I am dividing it into steps to make it easier for you to understand.

Make List of Important Topics Relevant to your Business:

To start the keyword research, first, make a list of the topics you can think of relevant to your niche or business. Most likely, you will come up with a list of 5 – 10 topics that you can use to find specific keywords later.

These topics could be anything. It is better to put yourself in your audience’s shoes and think of the phrase or words they might use which you want to be found for.

Imagine you have a website through which you sell marketing software. You can come up with topics similar to:

  • Email marketing
  • Inbound marketing
  • SEO
  • Marketing automation
  • Lead generation

Use an SEO to find the monthly search volume for these topics.

When I looked for email marketing, I got a figure of 18.1k searches per month.

keyword with high search volume

The average monthly search for the term lead generation is around 9.9k.

keyword with high search volume

Think of Titles Around the Selected Topics:

Now as you have a list of topics relevant to your niche, think of titles you can create content for.

For the above list, you can come up with something like this:

  • How email marketing increases your ROI?
  • Is inbound marketing still effective?
  • Why SEO is crucial for your business?
  • What do marketing automation tools do?
  • Top ways to increase lead generation

At this step, you only need to write whatever comes to your mind as it would help you in brainstorming. This list isn’t final yet.

Look for Related Search Terms:

This is a very interesting way to find keywords related to your niche. Just go to google.com, and search one of the keywords you have already written.

searches related to

In the above example, when I searched for email marketing, Google gave me suggestions under “Searches related to email marketing”. This section is present at the bottom of the page.

You can further advance your research by looking for the average monthly searches for these keywords in your SEO tool.

Keep an Eye on your Competitors:

Not necessarily, you have to use all the keywords your competitors are using, but it is a good idea to know what keywords they are using and how they are ranking for them.

It will further help you evaluate your keyword list.

If you have a keyword on your list that your competitors are also using, then probably, you should work harder on that.

However, do not overlook the keywords your competitors are not using. It is because this could be a smart move to capture a good market and establish your authority.

Narrow Down your List:

Once you have a list of all the keywords you have gathered using the above steps, it’s time to narrow down the list.

There are many SEO tools you can use to find out the monthly average searches and other details about keywords, I prefer to use Google Keyword Planner and SEMScoop

To use Google Keyword Planner, you need to set up an ad account, but you don’t have to run ads.

With the help of these tools, you can decide to skip using a keyword if it has tool little average monthly searches.

In the below example, the term digital marketing software has a search volume of 260 which is quite low, and you can leave this term.

searches with low search volume

You Are Done!

Congratulations! You now have a list of keywords that are well researched and you can focus on them to rank your pages on the SERP.

Make sure you keep evaluating these keywords every few months. If you find some new ones, include them in your strategy. As you gain authority in SERP, you can add new keywords in your list and work on them to expand your success and maintain your current position.

What Is Link Building and Why Is It Important

Link building is one of the most important aspects of Search Engine Optimization. Without employing this technique, you cannot be successful online.

If you haven’t started link building yet, this is the high time to start. In this quick guide, I will discuss how you can do link building to strengthening your online presence.

What is Link Building?

Link building is a process in which you get links back to your site from other resources. When someone connects your web page to theirs using a hyperlink, you get a backlink.

With the backlinks, users can navigate to your website from other websites. They also help search engine crawlers move between the linked pages easily.

There are many different ways that can be used to get backlinks. You don’t need to use all of these ways, however, mastering at least one of them could take you ahead of your competitors.

Before moving to the “how” part, we’ll first discuss “why”.

Why Backlinks are Important in SEO?

In this section, I will discuss some major benefits you can enjoy with link building.

Generally, the number of inbound links determines the popularity of a website. By getting inbound links from quality sites, you increase the chances of improving your Google Page Rank (PR).

Some of the major benefits of link building are:

  • Increased visibility of your blog or website on search engines.
  • Increased brand visibility and brand authority.
  • Enjoy traffic from other websites to which your site is linked.
  • With high-quality backlinks, your website will be considered as a valuable resource.
  • With quality backlinks, you can be indexed quickly on the SERP.
  • Link building helps in improving your conversion rate.

It is always advised to spend a few days, just after you start your website or blog, in link building as it can give you good exposure on search engines.

Top 10 Ways to Build Backlinks

Usually, people think it’s hard to get quality backlinks, but it is doable. In fact, you can use some smart methods to get high-ranked websites to link to your business. How?

Let me discuss them one by one.

Broken Link Method

It is quite an interesting method. In this method, you contact webmasters and report broken links on their website.

Now, you just not only report the broken links but also recommend some other websites to which they can link their content. Obviously, you’ll include your own website in the recommendation as well.

As you are doing a favor to the webmaster, chances are high that they’ll link to your website.

How to do this?

Firstly, you have to find websites that are relevant to your niche. You can simply find them using Google. Try the following queries:

  • Keyword+link
  • Keywords inurl:links
  • keyword+resources

Let’s say, I have a website on dog training. To find relevant websites, I will try “dog training+links”.

Once I have relevant websites, I have to check them for broken or 404 links. To do this, I need a plugin which is Check My Links. I will download and install it, and it will find all the broken links on the website for me.

broken link method of link building

When approaching the webmaster, introduce yourself and try to be friendly. Provide the exact location of the broken link, and don’t forget to give alternatives to replace them. Try to be helpful instead of being greedy for a backlink.

Infographics

Infographics are not only a great source of attracting a lot of relevant traffic to your website, but it also helps you in gaining some quality backlinks.

Visual data is easy to understand and feels good to eyes. Isn’t it?

This is the reason, the demand for infographics has increased exponentially lately. Do you know Mashable an influential publication – publishes valuable infographics from all over the internet.

So, why not give it a try? Maybe, the next infographic published in Mashable would be yours.

Infographics are a good way for link building

Guest Blogging/Guest Articles

Guest blogging is one of the oldest yet effective way to reach a whole new audience. When you write for another website, you are basically showcasing your abilities in front of new readers, and get more exposure.

The sole purpose of guest blogging is not winning backlinks. Instead, this is an excellent way to build your online reputation and increase your followers.

However, it might sound challenging to find websites where you can guest blog because all websites do not accept guest articles. But don’t worry! I’ll tell you a couple of ways to find such websites.

Use Google

Simply go to the search bar of Google and try any of the following combinations. Of course, you can try more than one.

  • Keyword + guest-posts
  • Your Keyword + contribute
  • Keyword + submit an article
  • Your Keyword + want to write for
  • Keyword + inurl:write-for-us
  • Your Keyword + bloggers wanted
  • Keyword + become a contributor
  • Your Keyword + become an author

Use Twitter

You can use social media to find platforms that accept guests posts. Use terms such as guest articles, guest posts, guest author etc. to look for the ideas where you can post your content and get backlinks to your website.

These guest posting tips can be helpful for you while posting as a contributor or guest author.

Promote your Work/Content

One thing you need to understand is that only creating great content cannot get you backlinks unless you promote it.

There could be many approaches you can use to promote your content. One of them is to outreach people through email and promote your best content pieces.

Attend Webinars and Get Interviewed

Webinars are hot these days. A great way of self-promotion and getting backlinks to your website is to attend webinars.

When you become an authority in your niche, you will naturally get a lot of invitations for interviews, but you need to take the first step.

Look for people or websites that run interviews. Introduce yourself and tell them that you are interested in getting interviewed.

When people would know that you have something valuable to share, they would definitely want to have you on their webinar and interview you.

Conclusion

You may find earning backlinks a bit difficult, but you can find some good link building opportunities by using the methods.

After building backlinks, the next important step is to keep these backlinks. To keep an eye on them, you can use different tools like Monitor Backlinks, Majestic, or Ahrefs.

The outcome of your SEO strategy highly depends on picking up the right keywords, work to rank them on the SERP, and then keep a track of their position in search. Along with that checking, the keyword rank is also important.

However, if you are an SEO professional, a blogger, or a business owner, you need to keep an eye on your Google keyword ranking for the keywords you are targeting.

Why Keywords are Important for Content?

You may find a few people saying that keywords are not important anymore.

This is not true though.

In fact, if you are not using keywords in your content, you are leaving a lot of money on the table.

It doesn’t take more than 15 – 20 minutes to use tools like Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, or SEMScoop to find out which keywords you can use in your content.

Take the full advantage of these tools and their sophisticated results to choose the right keywords for your niche.

With the help of the right keyword selection and their proper usage, you can accomplish proper on-page SEO, and your chances to appear in the first 50 results increase by many folds.
